Job Summary: JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University is seeking applications for a full time, tenured line, Assistant Professor in Special Education in the College of Education. Responsibilities include instructing teacher education/special education courses with an emphasis on instructing youth who have learning disabilities (LD). Additionally, the faculty member will develop and refine teaching and assessment practices; advise students; contribute to the COE's nationally recognized accreditation initiatives; and participate in program, department, college, and community meetings.
Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph. D. and Ed. D. in Teacher Education/Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities or related field. Candidates who are ABD may also be considered. Additional qualifications include: a minimum of 3 years in classroom teaching experience or school setting with children, adolescents, and young adults with LD; comfort using instructional technology and on-line learning programs to support student learning; familiarity with Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) professional standards for teaching individuals who have learning disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications: PREFERRED: Doctorate in special education/curriculum and instruction with a concentration in Learning Disabilities or related field; experience teaching at the university level, or strong background in providing staff development to teachers in a school setting; and extensive experience teaching a diverse student population in an inclusive setting. Preference will be given to candidates that have familiarity with CAEP and other accreditation agencies.
