The Department of Romance and Classical Studies is seeking a full-time Academic Specialist to serve as the Basic Language Instruction Coordinator for Spanish. This is an academic year (9 month) appointment as an Academic Specialist – Curriculum Development, with potential for annual renewal based on performance and availability of funding. The position will begin August 16, 2018.
Duties to be assigned by the Chairperson of the department and can include:
Assistance in syllabus design
Instructor and TA observation
Advising students for appropriate course placement
Supervision of SPN 100-200 instructors and TAs,
Handling student concerns
Teaching three (3) courses/year at the 100 and/or 200 level.

Masters -Applied Hispanic Linguistics or related
MA degree or equivalent in Applied Hispanic Linguistics or related field;
Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish;
Familiarity with ACTFL proficiency guidelines;
Demonstrated organizational and management abilities in a basic-language program;
Demonstrated excellence in basic-language coordination;
Willingness to work with the Spanish faculty within an articulated program;
Background with working with diverse student populations;
Minimum of 4 years’ experience of teaching and coordination at University or College level.
Preference given to candidates who are certified ACTFL testers.
