The African Studies Center (ASC) is located in International Studies and Programs. A long‐time recipient of U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) and Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS), the center has over 200 affiliated faculty who teach and conduct research in diverse fields across the continent.
The Assistant Director works closely with the African Studies Director and provides strong support and leadership for the Center’s educational, research and partnership initiatives.
The duties of the Assistant Director position include but are not limited to:
Assisting with Center research and partnership initiatives through staying abreast of MSU faculty interests and expertise
Facilitating African partnership research and engagement
Grant writing including the US/ED NRC and FLAS proposals; and subsequent management of these awards, including evaluation and reporting for these grants
Supporting Africa‐related curriculum and course development, program design and delivery
Facilitating faculty participation in center programs including administration of Core Faculty and Advisory Committee membership and activities
Other duties as required
Doctorate -Africa related field
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in an Africa‐related field of study.
Candidates also must have fluency in an African language and/or French.
Three years or more of higher education administrative experience is required.
Applicants with previous Title VI, FLAS and other Department of Education grant administration experience preferred.
