The Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates for anticipated fixed-term (non-tenure stream) faculty positions in elementary social studies teacher preparation. This is a full-time position (one-year appointment). Primary responsibilities will be at the East Lansing campus, but may include occasional travel to off-campus sites in Chicago, Detroit, or Grand Rapids.
Responsibilities will include some combination of the following: teaching preservice or master's level courses related to elementary social studies education and/or literacy; working with teaching interns and their collaborating teachers during a year-long internship required for initial teacher certification; serving as Subject Area Leader of the elementary social studies program; and contributing to program re-certification, assessment, and accreditation.
Position’s rank will be at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications. Appointment will be for one-year beginning Fall 2018. A doctorate degree (Assistant Professor) in education with a focus on social studies and/or literacy; outstanding candidates with a master's degree and exceptional experience will be considered (as an Instructor rank);
Appropriate teaching experience and relevant college-level teaching, specifically in social studies education and/or literacy; experience in guiding doctoral students in curriculum and instruction in elementary social studies and/or literacy teacher education; commitment to working as part of a team; and excellent communication and leadership skills.
A background in elementary literacy, along with social studies, and ability to teach introductory literacy courses.
