The School of Packaging in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources seeks to hire an Academic Specialist-Advisor. This is a full time position in the continuing system. The primary role of the Academic Specialist-Advisor is to advise a diverse population of students in enrollment, planning, major requirements, referrals and course approvals.
Responsibilities also include:
Provide advising to Packaging students and prospective students on degree requirements, course selection, annual enrollment and graduation planning
Provide guidance for students experiencing academic difficulty and assist them through EASE Reports and Student Academic Progress forms
Manage curriculum changes and degree certifications
Manage student records as they relate to ESAF, Student Success Dashboard, Degree Navigator and Degree Audit
Provide information and tours to prospective students as well as high school groups
Provide internship/career counseling
Act as a liaison between students and faculty
Provide access to support resources for academic, physical, and emotional/mental health challenges
Disseminate relevant information to packaging students, this includes management of social media
Analyze data on packaging students including incoming freshman GPA's, academics across academic career, internship and career outcomes
Organize scholarship process and committee
Set department schedule of courses
Participate in unit, college and university level meetings
The candidate must understand, interpret and implement academic policies and procedures and represent the School of Packaging at university events such as admissions, recruiting and the Academic Orientation Program (AOP) for new first-year and transfer students.

Excellent interpersonal and communication (spoken and written) skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to interpret and implement academic policies for the benefit of students
Capacity to enhance students' academic experience by working effectively with individuals and groups from diverse social/economic/cultural backgrounds
Ability to problem solve independently and as a team
Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, education
Three or more years of academic advising experience preferred
Familiarity with student information systems such as SIS (Student Information System), ESAF (Electronic Student Academic Folder), D2L (Desire 2 Learn), Student Success Dashboard, or Degree Navigator, a plus
