Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s Office of Academic Achievement invites applicants for the position of Academic Specialist-Advisor. Reporting to the Director of Academic Achievement, this position will develop and facilitate programs, services and resources that support student retention, academic success and individualize support throughout the Shared Discovery Curriculum. In addition, provide academic advising and tutorial services to medical students. The duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Develops and organizes materials that will assist medical students in gaining the necessary skills to be successful in the Shared Discovery Curriculum.
Tutor medical students individually or in a small group setting to assist them in achieving satisfactory academic progress within the Shared Discovery Curriculum.
Assists with training of tutors and small group leaders who facilitate the learning enhancement programs in the Shared Discovery Curriculum.
Assisting medical students in preparing for individual clerkship, USMLE Step 1 and 2 Licensure Exams.
Assists medical students with learning and study strategies ( e.g., enhance clinical reasoning, developing time management skills, implementing self-testing methods and improve test-taking skills).
This position is located in Grand Rapids, MI. Occasional travel will be required.
Masters -Education, educational psychology
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with diverse adult learners in higher education or medical education settings. Familiar with learning and study strategies.
