Essential Functions: Job Purpose:The Warrior Way Back/Students in Transition Advisor will act as guide and navigator to students who are interested in returning to Wayne State, assessing and making recommendations for the most appropriate path for re-entry, working closely with offices who will support transition students, and make appropriate student referrals. -As a single point of entry for Warrior Way Back the individual is responsible for coordinating the essential functions of the program, which includes supporting the vision and commitment of the program and working closely with Enrollment Management and Student Success support services to develop long-term strategic goals centered on creating a safe and supportive environment for students to enter the educational environment..-Assist students with navigating the financial and/or aid process, connecting students to success support services, assessing and making recommendations for the most appropriate path for re-entry, and developing and creating a welcoming environment of support and belonging.-Serve as advocate and coach helping students assess academic, personal and professional needs. Assist students with exploring appropriate majors/programs, balancing life commitments with school and navigating the educational process.-Assist students with understanding options and making appropriate referrals to the Office of Student Financial Aid for next steps in the process.-Navigate the educational process for veterans including discussing benefits, application process, reviewing services for veteran-students and making appropriate referrals. Provide follow-up support when required or necessary.-Continuous support for adult learners as they work toward degree completion. Assess potential roadblocks/barriers and assist students with navigating through them.-Create, manage and coordinate programs, open houses and information sessions to support the unique needs of adult learners.-Develop, organize and facilitate on campus programming to support adult learners.-Track student success, student milestones and prepare reports for Enrollment Management and Student Success leadership.-Keep detailed notes in Advising Works.-Participate in strategic planning focused on adult learners and returning students.-Work with marketing to increase visibility ow Warrior Way Back, and other adult learner programs through electronic and print materials, programs and community outreach.
Qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Ed Leadership, Student Personnel Services or related fieldExcellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.Experience working with diverse populations.Experience working with non-traditional students, in particular students who have had their education interrupted but want to return.Experience advocating student needs, goals ad concerns with colleagues to create an environment of thriving and persistence. Strong desire to promote education achievement.Competence in decision making, organization and time management skills with a high attention to detail.
