Michigan State University, Department of Neurology & Ophthalmology seeks applications for a Nurse Practitioner providing specialty care and continuum of care for patients with Neurological disorders.
Nurse Practitioner will work independently and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide health care across the continuum of care for patients with Neurological disorders including muscle disease, general neurology and geriatric neurologic disorders to public and providers in all levels of the community tricounty area. The Nurse Practitioner provides specialty care with aspects of medical care, focusing on the patient as a whole person. the provision of care includes but is not limited to: comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies. Will provide teaching to patients and family related to disease management awareness and prevention. Assumes lead roles in educational projects, course development and presentations. Participates in research projects in conjunction with departmental faculty.
Will provide course development and presentations in specified focus areas.
One or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a masters of nursing; requires possession of a current license to practice as a registered nurse and specialty certification as a nurse practitioner in the State of Michigan.
Neurology experience is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated leadership ability. Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs. Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting. Two to five years of clinical experience is preferred.
