Michigan State University is seeking an Specialist - Teacher, also known as Associate Director (AD), for its Writing Center. The AD position is a one-year, annual year position in the Academic Specialist system with an expected term of five years. Annual renewal is contingent on performance reviews, program need, and availability of funding.
The candidate who assumes this position will assist the director by facilitating the
day-to-day operation of the main center and our online satellite (including, for instance, the preparation, scheduling, supervision, and on-going professional development of writing and digital writing consultants in these locations);
oversight of the center’s web/media presence, including both front and back facing sides of the website, all social media outlets, and media production for center programming;
development of new initiatives related to writing center programming, including consultant training/mentoring, faculty consultations, support for writers and digital and multimedia writing and rhetoric;
development of new initiatives related to Tier II writing (WAC/WID/CAC/CID);
development and involvement of writing consultants in center-related research initiatives (including the development of grant proposals to fund such research);
support of our ongoing Community Composing Project, including grant writing, community networking, student mentoring, and website/media design and implementation; and
teaching of one course each semester related to the center’s mission (e.g., the consultant preparation course, FYW, etc).

An MA in Rhetoric/Composition, English, English education, or a related field (PhD preferred); knowledge of current writing/writing center theory; experience working in a writing center (administrative experience in a writing center or writing program preferred); experience working with multilingual writers; experience teaching writing; and knowledge of web hosting and web and media design/support.
