The Biosciences Group of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute is seeking an outstanding Post Doctoral Research Fellow for a one-year, renewable appointment.
The Biosciences Group conducts research on biomechanics, anthropometry, ergonomics, and human modeling, focusing on vehicle occupant safety and accommodation. We are leaders in gathering, analyzing, and applying three-dimensional anthropometric and motion data for engineering applications, particularly in the workspace and vehicle domains. We are seeking a post-doctoral scholar to participate in research related to human posture and motion measurement and modeling.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with UMTRI faculty and staff to analyze rich datasets of motion-capture and force data from recent studies of human task performance. Applications include development of models to predict and evaluate realistic human posture and motion, and preparation of these models for implementation in task analysis software.
The successful candidate will: 1) conduct collaborative research, 2) author and co-author peer-reviewed publications and present findings at professional meetings; and 3) assist in supervision and training of undergraduate and graduate students. Desirable characteristics include: strong collaborative aptitude, excellent written and oral communication abilities, and excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree in industrial or biomedical engineering, human factors, kinesiology or in a related area. A strong foundation in posture measurement and prediction for physical ergonomics, experience with optical motion capture and force measurement systems, and robust scientific computing skills are required. The candidate will have a demonstrated record of individual initiative and originality in research, strong quantitative and analytical skills, and the potential to become an independent academic researcher within two to three years.
This position offers the opportunity to develop a research program and enhance skills necessary for a successful academic/research career. Extensions are available dependent upon performance and funding.
