The Director of Clinical Research Administration will play a critical,integrative role leading and managing the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center(VICC) Clinical Trials Shared Resource (CTSR) to support the clinical research,operations and administrative needs of the VICC, inclusive of the Department ofRadiation Oncology and the Division of Pediatric Oncology. The Directorwill also provide clinical trial expertise and leadership across sites withinthe VICC Research Network. Managing across a matrix organization and reportingto the Executive Director of Administration and Chief Business Officer, the Director will facilitate processes so that faculty and staff can grow andexpand their clinical investigation and clinical trial portfolio.
The Director will be responsiblefor the administrative and operational needs and interests of the CTSR, whichincludes interventional and non-interventional clinical trials, select correlativeresearch and the translation of discovery from bench to patients and community aspart of an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This will includesupervision of a large and diverse team of staff who carry out clinical trials,tissue acquisition, and biospecimen collections for a variety of researchprograms, resources, and clinical research operational functions of theVICC. The Director will provide expert management of the operational andbudgetary needs of the CTSR and oversee clinical research operations, datamanagement, regulatory compliance, quality assurance and safety, theintegration of research into clinical operations, and scientific review.
The Director will useresearch-driven performance measures and prioritize complex situationsaccording to research-driven criteria in order to plan strategically andflexibly (i.e., âget the big pictureâ) and to respond tactically and resourcefully(i.e., âroll up sleevesâ and âproblem-solveâ). This includes responsibility for VICC and VUIIS clinical research projectsand clinical trials such as pre-award grant activities and renewal of largegrants, in particular, the clinical trials sections of the Cancer CenterSupport Grant, SPOREs, U10s, U01s U54s, NCI National Clinical Trials Network consortia.
The Director will beresponsible for administrative supervision and management of all clinical trialsin a highly matrix and collaborative environment. Specifically, the Director will:
Oversee and supervise clinical research operations throughout the Vanderbilt-Ingram including staffing, professional development, clinical trial grants and contracts, facilities, equipment inventory, space inventory, and clinical trial management systems. Proven ability to work on complex grant mechanisms and support all aspects of the Vanderbilt-Ingram clinical research portfolio
Contribute to managing relationships throughout VUMC and Vanderbilt University at large
Oversee and optimize a total clinical research expense budget in excess of over $12M
Oversee all clinical research infrastructure and service work and in collaboration with the Executive Director of Administration and Medical Director, implement the reorganization of the technical and operational components of clinical research to support cancer and non-cancer clinical research in the Cancer Center and OIQS respectively
Identify the need, prioritize the implementation, lead the design of business processes, and ensure sustainability of administrative and operational support systems for clinical research
Establish policies and procedures with the disease team leaders, department chairs center directors, and senior leadership to ensure compliance and enable the community to carry out clinical research
Advocate for staff on personnel issues, including performance evaluation, organizational development, recruitment, and total compensation
Oversee the operational management of clinical research expenditures, as well as the generation of new research revenue from industry sponsors and externally peer reviewed organizations
