Our creative in-house marketing team is seeking an experienced, motivated, innovative, and highly creative graphic designer to design and develop visually compelling communications for print and multimedia projects and campaigns. It will be part of a creative and passionate in-house marketing communications team. This position comes at an exciting time for the school, when we are developing new brand campaigns to amplify our impact and gain brand visibility. This position will be responsible for designing print, web, and html email communications, in addition to assisting with website updates and development. The position will report directly to the Creative Director.
Under general supervision, develop visual communications and marketing materials designed to enhance the branding, understanding, visibility, and marketing of the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), its programs, courses, projects, research, and/or students/faculty. Includes assisting in activities in the following categories:
Developing graphic designs and other visual design communications for a variety of marketing communications channels, such as logos, infographics, images for websites, presentations, emails or social media, the alumni magazine, digital and environmental signage, print materials, proposals, reports, brochures, e-newsletters or other promotional materials. May include taking design aesthetics/assets and mood boards and working with the Creative Director to apply across various mediums.
Uses active listening skills to effectively incorporate feedback and edits from departments or other team members. Uses “client service” skills to accommodate changing dates, priorities, and styles.
Under direction of senior staff, assist with website redesign and development and maintenance such as updating content, layout or functionality of existing Drupal and Wordpress websites, including, UX design, accessibility, usability, and monitoring links to ensure proper functioning of website and email marketing components.
Assist senior staff in developing Drupal website training materials for select SEAS departments who need to update specific sections of Drupal website.
Develop email templates and designs for marketing emails and coordinate and prepare newsletter/email marketing distributions.
Research, analyze, monitor and evaluate marketing efforts for effectiveness, reporting results (e.g. Google Analytics, newsletter metrics) to appropriate higher levels of leadership.
Under the direction of senior staff, assist with photography such as staging and shooting photos, shot list development, applying photo treatments, editing and cropping photos, and cataloging photos.
Provides support to the team in other areas as needed, including coordination with partner units, vendors/freelancers/temps as needed under the direction more senior staff.
Meets regularly with SEAS team to align marketing efforts and visuals. Uses strong teamwork skills to thoughtfully collaborate with team members and clients as needed.
Working knowledge of concepts and principles of communications and marketing.
2-5 years of graphic design experience in a professional setting creating visual design elements for a variety of marketing communications materials, such as logos, info graphics, newsletters images for websites or social media, brochures or other promotional materials.
Professional experience updating, maintaining and creating website components using content management systems, such as Drupal and/or Wordpress. Experience in UX design, coding in PHP, HTML, and website updating and/or patching.
Professional experience with photography such as staging and shooting photos, shot list development, applying photo treatments, editing photos, and cataloging photos.
Demonstrated experience and expertise using technical programs (such as including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, and InDesign in the Adobe Creative Suite), and camera equipment.
Good written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills and political acumen.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Ability to accept and incorporate critical feedback from SEAS departments, partners, and teammates in a diplomatic and professional manner.
Experience developing creative design assets/HTML for email marketing, and using email marketing tools such as Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, Salesforce, or similar email marketing tool.
Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
