The Sr. Research Assistant will work as part of a collaborative research team on an ethnographic assessment of drug use and harm reduction capacity in Maryland counties from the perspective of people who use drugs and stakeholders. This position will be instrumental in supporting qualitative data analysis and dissemination activities.
This is a full-time position with a fixed end date of August 31, 2019. The primary duties are described below.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
The Sr. Research Assistant will engage in the following:
Conduct data analyses, including codebook development and application, generating memos and data summaries as directed by the investigators and Data Manager. (Data are inclusive of qualitative and quantitative data collected among drug users and stakeholders).
Support participant record maintenance, and study data management (inclusive of data from stakeholders, organizational partners, and prospective harm reduction partners as appropriate).
Manage research datasets on file servers and ensure their appropriate backup, completeness, correctness and integrity.
Conduct literature reviews, assess existing data in the literature and other background materials, evaluate data quality, and assist with preparation and distribution of data to the group.
Assist in preparing scientific and community presentations, grant applications, and manuscripts.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Successful candidates will be proactive, flexible, and thoughtful, with the proven capacity to work quickly and accurately, both independently and with a small team of dedicated professionals.
Prior qualitative data analysis experience public health setting strongly preferred.
Prior collaborative qualitative and/or mixed methods research experience a plus.
Experience using MAXQDA, SPSS, SAS, and/or R software.
Experience using MAXQDA or other qualitative data management software.
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as Social & Behavioral Sciences, Anthropology, Sociology and/or Public Health, three years of related experience and familiarity with common qualitative analysis software packages such as MAXQDA and Atlas.ti.
Master's degree in related discipline highly desired (in Social and Behavioral Sciences, Anthropology, Sociology, and/or Public Health), knowledgeable of drug use/injection drug use in the context of health, familiarity with harm reduction approaches to drug use and research experience related to vulnerable populations, such as people who use and/or inject drugs; and/or community stakeholders including front line workers, service providers, first responders, program planners, and decision makers desired.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
