Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Laboratory Research Assistant for the Hassenfeld Child Health Innovation Institute (HCHII) will be responsible for isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from whole blood using the Ficoll-Paque protocol. All specimens will need to be prepared and stored for future laboratory analysis. Job duties include counting cells using hemocytometer/automatic cell counter, preparing freezing media using aseptic technique, aliquoting, appropriately labeling vials, maintaining specimen integrity, entering data into computer systems and correctly storing in freezers for long term storage. In addition, the research assistant will also be responsible for going to women and infants hospital and helping in specimen collection for different studies. Additional responsibilities include performing general lab administration, which includes keeping the laboratory organized, clean and with enough supplies to get the work done. The applicant should be detail-oriented with thorough and methodical work habits. Ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and previous work experience in a laboratory. Major responsibilities of this job will include: Using aseptic technique, isolate Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) from participant whole blood, aliquot into cryovials and store for long term storage, providing assistance in specimen collection, and performing general Laboratory administration and maintenance.
Bachelorâ™s degree in biology or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
One year of biological laboratory experience preferred. Specifically in cell culture
Must provide own transportation to research sites and freezer facilities.
Strong attention to detail, superior work ethic, professionalism and organizational skills required.
Previous data entry experience preferred.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Power-Point, Excel, and Email) required with the willingness to learn new software applications and technologies.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
This is a fixed term Part--time Position with a current end date of 12/31/19.
