The Survey Research Center (SRC) at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research (ISR) invites applications for a full-time position of Research Scientist (open rank) for a new program on the Demography of Aging, Disability and Care.
SRC is a unique, world-renowned social science research center that conducts investigator initiated, survey-based research on theoretical and applied problems of social and scientific importance (please see our website): http://www.src.isr.umich.edu/. The Demography of Aging, Disability and Care program focuses on population aging, disability, and long-term care and related measurement and survey issues. The program provides leadership for two national surveys—the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS) and the National Study of Caregiving (NSOC). NHATS and NSOC foster research to understand trends and trajectories in late-life disability and consequences for individuals, families, and society.
SRC seeks to hire a Research Scientist who will collaborate with the NHATS and NSOC research teams. The scientist will lead dissemination-related activities aimed at cultivating the survey’s user base. The individual will develop a series of technical papers and/or publications documenting methodological issues of interest to the user community, create an online short course for users and an in-person summer workshop, undertake outreach to new user groups, represent the studies at user workshops and scientific meetings, facilitate use of the secure data enclave for restricted data users, and regularly summarize scientific findings with NHATS and NSOC from the research community. In addition, the individual will have opportunities to participate in design and field-monitoring activities. The researcher will also prepare proposals for funded research related to aging, disability and care, independently and as part of the research team, and develop a related research agenda.
Requirements for the position are a Ph.D. in a social science field, demonstrated experience in the scientific or technical management of research projects, a strong interest in aging research, experience with large national data sets, and excellent presentation and writing skills.
