Human Development and Family Studies, at Michigan State University, is in search for an energetic, personable, and self-motivated Advisor-Fixed Term for our Undergraduate Offices.
Advise Human Development and Child Development undergraduate students in a team-oriented environment.
Perform the full range of academic advising activities including summer academic orientation, program planning, record maintenance, experiential learning preparation, degree certification, career and study away/abroad planning and major selection.
Advisor will have responsibility for other student services functions and engagement activities including meeting with prospective students and their families and participating in College and Department events.
Serve as liaison between HDFS and other units on campus.
Serve as the Advisor to the HDFS Club.
Occasional evening or weekend hours can be expected.
Possible teaching and/or outreach duties within HDFS may apply.

Masters -Student Affairs, Higher Education, or re
Doctorate -Student Affairs, Higher Education, or re
Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field;
Experience working with and/or advising college-age students preferred;
Familiarity with Michigan State University policies, procedures, and student data;
One to three years of experience advising undergraduate students, or comparable experiences with college/university students;
Ability to establish rapport across ethnic, racial, and gender differences;
Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills;
Demonstrate through experience and presentation the ability to be self motivated.
PhD in student affairs, higher education, or related field;
3-5 years of experience advising undergraduate students;
1-3 years of teaching experience at a university level.
