International Studies and Programs' African Studies Center is searching for a Specialist-Outreach, Program Manager, to provide support and management for the activities and programs of the Ubuntu Dialogues project.
The Ubuntu Dialogues: Museums and Communities Connect is a partnership project between the MSU African Studies Center and the Stellenbosch University Museum in South Africa. This 3-year Mellon Foundation funded project will consist of online student dialogues (Ubuntu Conversations); graduate student internship exchanges; and seminars involving academic leaders and heritage professionals (Ubuntu Seminars).
The key aims of the Ubuntu Dialogues project are to build bridges among students, faculty and heritage professionals in South Africa and the USA; to transform institutions through collaborative engagement; to transform lives through engaged learning; and to bridge the digital divide between the global north and south.
The Program Manager will work closely with the Director of the African Studies Center to provide support and management for the activities and programs of the Ubuntu Dialogues project. The duties of the Program Manager position include but are not limited to:
Overall point person for Ubuntu Dialogues at MSU
Carry out Ubuntu Dialogues online conversations (together with SU colleagues) (2019-21)
Serve as liaison with intern hosts in Detroit (2019) and Washington DC (2020-21)
Support student exchanges and coordination together with Faculty Advisor (2019-21)
Support faculty/museum professional seminars and host SU fellows together with ASC Assistant Director (2019-21)
Support student and faculty cohort development towards community of practice (2019-21)
Reporting and Evaluation together with ASC Assistant Director (2019-21)
Doctorate -Africa-related field preferably in Highe
Doctorate degree in Africa-related field of study; preferably in Higher Education
One to three years of experience with South African higher education and museum programs
Experience with cross-cultural programming in academic and/or museum settings
