The University of Detroit Mercy seeks a visionary leader, with an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and extensive knowledge of international education, committed to fostering collaboration across the university in an effort to expand internationalization at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
(1) Manage administrative operations of the International Services Office (ISO), including, but not limited to, staffing budgets, assessment, training, compliance and records retention. (2) Oversee SEVIS data reporting and maintenance to ensure accuracy and compliance. (3) Work with students, faculty and staff to design and implement programs and activities in accordance with the university’s mission. (4) Foster a climate so that international students feel connected to the UDM community, including coordinating new student orientation, cultural events, and regional tours and experience. (5) Track and support international student retention and success. (6) Educate and provide support for students, faculty and staff concerning immigration matters. Administer the department of Homeland Security (DOH) F-1 Visa Program and administer the department of State’s (DOS) J-1 Exchange Visitor Program as it pertains to visiting Scholars and Professors. (7) Collaborate with the Office of Admissions to support international recruiting and admissions. (8) Enhance and promote community engagement both on and off campus in international experiences. (9) Create opportunities to enhance international education through the use of social media. (10) Willing and able to travel in order to develop agreements and programs for UDM with relevant international institutions. (11) Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree, preferably discipline related to international studies or higher education administration.
- Prior experience in ESL. - Prior experience in supervising a staff of 3 or more. - Prior responsibility as PDSO/DSO. - Overseas living and/or experience, or significant multicultural experience. - Demonstrated experience in working is a collaborative, multicultural and internationally diverse environment with focus on customer/student services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership management skills, including budget and staff management. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Excellent analytical and organization skills. - Proficiency in a second language. - Ability to communicate across cultures, especially with individuals who speak English as a second language. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Excellent analytical and organization skills. - Excellent interpersonal skills. - Prior knowledge of Banner software.
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekends required.
