The responsibilities of a tutor include consulting with individual students and facilitating small group sessions under the supervision of the Teaching/Learning Center Manager. Tutors should be content-area specialists in Accounting & Economics with ability to tutor in other areas across the curriculum as needed. Proficiency in learning/study strategy development and application and test-taking skills is required, as tutors may provide academic coaching consultations, create and/or deliver educational materials or workshops (under the direction and supervision of the T/LC Manager), or substitute as a class-embedded tutor (e.g. Structured Learning Assistant) at Delta College main campus or at any of its learning centers.
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:
Providing individualized and/or group learning support in specific content-areas in a variety of ways (in person, online, by phone, through email, etc.) Guiding students on how to approach homework assignments, presentations/projects, problem-solving, disciplinary thinking, etc.
Facilitating academic success coaching consultations and helping students develop the metacognitive and learning/study strategies which contribute to academic/professional success.
Participating in College and department meetings as required to discuss policies/procedures, employee expectations, and student retention/success initiatives, among other topics.
Engaging in ongoing professional development efforts to improve content-area knowledge, learning/study/metacognitive strategies, and tutoring communication skills.
Performing other relevant duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
Maintaining accurate and detailed records of student contacts resulting from drop-ins, appointments, phone/email contacts, online sessions, workshops, etc.
Contributing to T/LC and/or WRIT Center outreach efforts (through facilitation of orientation sessions, tours, class visits, workshops; assisting with social media posts; maintaining contact with discipline faculty; and participating in outreach events, among other promotional activities)
Developing educational handouts, videos, or other learning/study strategy resources as requested/needed (under the direction and supervision of the T/LC Manager) to support student learning and success.
Referring students to campus resources and services as needed.
Responding to questions about T/LC & WRIT Center services in-person, through email, by telephone, or online.
Substituting as a class-embedded tutor (e.g. Structured Learning Assistant) as needed, at Delta’s main campus or any of its learning centers.
Associate’s degree or equivalent knowledge and skills in Accounting and/or Economics.
Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Evidence of effective teaching or tutoring experience in Accounting and Economics.
Additional Experiences Considered:
Bachelor’s degree in the content area (Accounting and/or Economics).
Evidence of two or more years of effective teaching or tutoring experience in Accounting and Economics.
