Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Department of Pathology is seeking a qualified scientist to manage a research lab working in the fields of immunology and microbiology. The successful candidate will be responsible for laboratory management and technical support to post-doctoral fellows and students in the lab.
Day to day duties will include ordering supplies; shipping and receiving reagents worldwide; maintenance of lab equipment; monitoring laboratory compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines including related record-keeping; on-boarding new employees and off-boarding current employees before they leave; and training and supervising undergraduate students.
Candidate will also assist with research projects involving biochemical, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques. Experimental duties include, but are not limited to: DNA/RNA isolation, Genotyping, plasmid manipulation, protein purification and column chromatography, cell culture, western blotting, and animal husbandry and weaning.
Other laboratory responsibilities, as they arise, under the direction of the PI.
BA or BS degree in biomedical sciences (or related field) with a minimum of 1 1/2 years of experience working in a research setting
Highly responsible, cooperative and able to work independently and with initiative
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills to work with a large, diverse group
Experience working with standard computer software
Must be available evenings and weekends to attend to lab duties (in case of emergency)
Previous experience working with and caring for rodents
Excellent technical skills for bench work including cell culture and protein purification
Manipulation of bacterial genomes
Experience with HPLC systems
Experience in plasmid preparation
