The Department of Psychiatry within the University of Michigan Medical School is seeking an experienced, energetic, highly motivated, and organized individual to join a growing research and program development team with the TRAILS Program (Transforming Research into Action to Improve the Lives of Students) as a Clinical Projects Lead. The position will have a significant role in the design and development of clinical materials to be used in community-based mental health care, and therefore extensive and expert knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is essential.
The Clinical Projects Lead will work with other TRAILS team members to increase utilization of evidence-based mental health practices among school professionals, K-12, and to expand the scope of current TRAILS materials, housed on the program’s website: www.TRAILStoWellness.org. The Clinical Projects Lead will provide supervision and expert input and guidance to a clinical team regarding the development and expansion of TRAILS clinical materials, resources, and tools, with a particular focus on the following priority program objectives: (1) development of clinical materials for students in grades K-8 and their building staff; (2) development of resources to support classroom-delivered brief lessons on Social Emotional Learning; (3) design and drafting of clinical materials to be implemented in a developing web-delivered CBT platform; and (4) development of family engagement material. A primary responsibility of the Clinical Projects Lead will be working with other TRAILS team members to provide ongoing management and revision of all TRAILS web-based materials. Additional roles may include delivering clinical trainings and seminars, providing clinical consultation to mental health providers statewide, engaging community partners, assisting with data collection and analysis, contributing to manuscript development, and providing additional support as appropriate.
Design and contribute to the development of an extension of the TRAILS model for general education classrooms and instructional staff, focused on Michigan’s new Social Emotional Learning Competencies
Provide support and clinical supervision to clinical staff developing Social Emotional Learning curriculum
Supervise the development of a tier 2 expansion of programming to grades K-8: Collaborate with clinical team to develop programmatic and operational manuals and materials to facilitate the expansion and scaling of TRAILS into grades K-8
Contribute to the design and development of a new web-based application that will facilitate delivery of CBT groups to students via computer-assisted technology
Contribute to the development of a TRAILS family engagement program
Regularly review web-based materials for updates and improvements
Make decisions about suggested revisions to existing web-based materials and implement improvements
Collaborate with clinical team members, website content experts, graphic designers, communications staff, and other personnel in a team-oriented manner to produce high-quality materials that can be efficiently accessed by community members
Lead the development and execution of focus groups and other feedback mechanisms for students, school staff, building administrators, etc. to inform program evolution and design of new materials
Contribute to the development and application of assessments and strategies to monitor fidelity of the evidence-based practices delivered by school professionals, as well as participant clinical outcomes
Master’s Degree, PhD, PsyD, or similar required, and 4-5 years of experience.
Extensive knowledge of CBT is essential. Highly motivated, organized, autonomous person with excellent multi-tasking ability and record-keeping skills. Must have a strong attention to detail with the ability to function in a team environment. Preference will be given to those candidates with a background in community partnered activities, health services, school settings, and those that have extensive experience working with children, youth, or young adults in clinical settings. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills is essential as is the ability to manage time and work efficiently and effectively.
Familiarity with existing Social and Emotional Learning frameworks is highly desired. Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and community-based mental health professionals; punctuality; and ability to demonstrate flexibility within an evolving community participatory research project. Research experience and experience with data management and analysis is preferred.
