The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate meats courses and provide lectures in other relevant classes as needed, develop an Extension meat science program that interacts with the appropriate work teams within the Agriculture and Agribusiness and appropriate extension institutes, and collaborates on applied research projects relevant to the Extension role in an area of meat science. Opportunities to collaborate with faculty in the Departments of Food Science and Human Nutrition, of Animal Science, and of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, as well as others exist. In addition, the successful candidate will provide supervision to personnel in the MSU Meat Laboratory and is expected to develop strong relationships with meat-/food-related industry groups, including the MSU Food Processing Innovation Center (https://www.canr.msu.edu/fpic/), through the applied research program and educational activities.
Teaching Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Animal Science 201 (Animal Products; lecture, Fall and Spring semesters), Animal Science 201L (Animal Products Laboratory; Fall Semester), and Food Science 433 (Food Processing: Muscle Foods; lecture/lab, Spring semester).
Extension and Outreach Responsibilities: The successful candidate will serve as the liaison with the MSU Meat Laboratory (https://www.canr.msu.edu/meatlab/), conduct relevant workshops and/or short courses that serve stakeholders and the industry, and conduct applied research addressing needs of the meats industry.
Candidates must have at least an M.S. degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Meat Science, Food Science, Animal Science or a closely related field, with documented experience in meat science research. The ability to work professionally with faculty, staff, and students from diverse populations is required. The applicant should possess a willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Prior research and/or industrial experience is highly desirable. Prior teaching experience, including a desire for involvement in student learning outcome assessment, is also highly desirable.
