Under general direction perform a variety of maintenance and repair functions on golf course mechanical equipment including various types of mowers, trucks, tractors, etc.
High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years minimum experience as a mechanic in maintaining golf course equipment. A minimum of one year golf course maintenance experience. Working knowledge of fluid hydraulics, automotive electronics, gas and arc welding, fabrication of specialty tools, gas and diesel engines. Ability to diagnose mechanical problems. Knowledge of reel/bedknife grinding and maintenance. Ability to communicate and work well with others. Frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 100 lbs. Intermittent standing, walking, sitting and driving. Use of hands and feet for repetitive grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, pulling and operating controls. Bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, reaching and gripping. Valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license and a driving record acceptable for coverage by the university’s insurance carrier.
