Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Sr. Systems Engineer will plan, implement, oversee, and maintain server and network infrastructures and projects for several data centers for a team of professionals with statistical, epidemiological and clinical informatics expertise whose primary mission is to provide leadership in complex study design, research coordination, data management and analytical methods for large, long-term research studies.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
Proactively manage and maintain a distributed research computing and network environment, including web-based data entry systems and data servers.
Serve as a liaison with school and university information technology teams on network and security issues.
Supervise hardware and software inventory and asset configuration documentation, including providing strategic recommendations for system organization, upgrades and purchases.
Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans.
Collaborate with other team members, including faculty, biostatisticians, data managers, project coordinators.
Serve as a knowledge-leader in computer systems and data management. Researches new technologies and associated equipment and perform assessments to implement
Supervise and mentor other software engineers and programming staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory): Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science (or related area). Six years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits or 18 graduate degree credits = 1 year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college coursework may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Preferred qualifications: Must have experience in a team setting, supervisory experience, and track record to think and act independently.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities: Linux and Windows Operating Systems and applications including Samba, Apache, FTP services, Php/MySQL, SQL Server. Perl and script language in Linux are required. C language skill is a plus. Knowledge of SAS programming language is helpful.

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
