The Director of Campaigns and Major Gifts is responsible to help expand an institutional focus on leadership and major gifts. Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement (IA), this role is vital in helping to design, create, and execute new strategies (including comprehensive campaigns) that focus on major and transformational gifts to the College. The Director works closely with College leadership, board of trustees, volunteer leadership and others, to build on the College’s historic success and role in the community since 1906 and to help shape the philanthropic vision for the College and maximize impact.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Raise monies to support the College’s fund raising goals of approximately $10 million+ annually and during campaign periods (goals of approximately $50M+).
Develop strategic engagement plans and major gift strategies that support the giving continuum through all phases including discovery/identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Collaborate with colleagues throughout the College, including the VP for IA, President, Associate Director of Individual Giving/Alumni Affairs, and others to support meaningful donor experiences that demonstrate the impact of philanthropy and support the phases noted above.
Working with the VP of IA, develop and oversee an on-going Major Gifts program for the College. including goals, benchmarks, and budget, while coordinating with the Sr. Director of Operations about giving policies, reporting, and tracking documents that leverage the College’s donor database.
Lead efforts for case development, collateral materials, key messaging, proposals, etc. to support major gift activities.
Support the President and VP IA in identifying and soliciting major gifts, as well involvement in research and analytics activity.
Manage a portfolio annually and support others in portfolio development.
Work with Trustees and faculty as appropriate.
Supervise the Associate Director of Individual Giving/Alumni Relations in developing/executing plans for Alumni giving, including the identification and solicitation of major gifts prospects and helping to build a strong culture of philanthropy.
Assist with identification, cultivation, and solicitation of planned gift prospects.
Work with Sr. Director of Development Operations and Assistant Director of Events to provide input on major gifts-focused stewardship and cultivation events.
Provide strategic input towards development of long-term comprehensive fund raising plans for the College.
Work with administration and faculty to develop philanthropic visions that help to inform and complement the strategic plan/vision for the College.
10 years or more of fund raising experience; successful track record of major gifts fund raising (including campaigns).
Experience in successful coordination of and/or collaboration with Alumni Relations.
Sophisticated, strategic thinker with the ability to work with high-level staff and volunteers.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
Knowledge of planned giving and Raiser’s Edge a plus.
Some travel required.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Evening and weekend work is required, on occasion as well as occasional travel outside of SE Michigan.
