Job Summary: JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University seeks applications for the position of Dean of the College of Education. The SVSU College of Education (COE) is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and is a regional and state leader in teacher education and in the preparation of educational leaders.
Housed in a modern facility with excellent instructional technology in its classrooms, the COE offers programs in Teacher Education (Elementary, Early Childhood, Special Education, and Middle/Secondary) along with graduate programs in teaching and educational leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITIES: Serve as Chief Academic Officer of the College of Education.
Provide leadership for strategic planning including developing and enhancing academic programs, both traditional and online in the College.
Promote and facilitate interdisciplinary programming and collaboration within the College and across the university.
Foster an environment that strives for inclusivity and excellence in communication.
Ensure continued accreditation and state approvals.
Develop strong partnerships with K-12 schools and the Michigan Department of Education.
Oversee recruitment, supervision, and professional development of a strong and diverse faculty and staff.
Manage College budget, course scheduling, and staff.
Participate in university governance and functions, including service on standing and ad hoc committees and represent the College to external constituencies.
Assist the SVSU Foundation with donor cultivation and fund-raising.
Work with faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs on grant development.
Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications: Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an accredited institution.
Administrative experience in higher education including fiscal and budgetary responsibility.
Experience with academic program development, assessment and accreditation processes.
Demonstrated experience in strategic partnerships among colleges, local school systems, service areas, post-secondary institutions, off-campus programs, community, and state educational partners. K-12 experience is desirable.
Evidence of strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents.
Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equal opportunity.
Evidence of high standards of both professional integrity and ethics.
Demonstrated knowledge of state and national trends in teacher preparation.
Strong commitment to and proven leadership in participatory governance within the university.
Experience in a collective bargaining setting preferred.
Evidence of successful grant procurement and administration.
