University of Maryland, Baltimore is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Pharmacist for the School of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Practice and Science Department. The selected candidate will provide clinical services for the Pediatric Emergency Department at the University of Maryland Medical Center. The Advanced Practice Pharmacist will focus on medication use in pediatric patients and be responsible for training pharmacy students and residents.

Provides direct patient care through providing services in the Emergency Department at University of Maryland Medical Center. The pharmacist may also provide coverage for other pediatric services.
Reviews, analyzes and interprets patient information.
Provides recommendations about appropriate medication therapy for patients in the Emergency Department.
Reviews patient profiles for appropriateness of medication therapies.
Document consultations and prescriber interactions, create reports that summarize clinical activity and present results to supervisors and reviewers.
Provide quality improvement services necessary for accreditation, certification or maintenance of permits and licenses.
May perform coordination of care services for patients.
Precept students nine months per year in the hospital. Precept residents.
As a financial initiative the Advanced Practice Pharmacist will participate in cost containment and resource utilization projects and will document cost reductions in a manner requested by pharmacy leadership.
As a research initiative the Advanced Practice Pharmacist will conduct and participate in research by disseminating original research through publication in peer review literature and/or presentation of written or delivered reviews on current topics at local, regional and national meetings.
Committee service for school and hospital including Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee as assigned.
Participate in clinical pathway or guideline development and maintenance when appropriate and/or when requested in order to maintain best practices within the institution.
May dispense and distribute medication.
Opportunities for teaching laboratory sessions and/or didactic lectures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor degree in pharmacy required. Current pharmacist licensure in good standing that will be eligible for reciprocity with State of Maryland Board of Pharmacy. Able to secure and retain an active State of Maryland Pharmacist license for employment.
Preferred Education: Doctoral degree in pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy.
Experience: Two (2) years post-doctoral residency specializing in Pediatrics. Residency or practice experience managing pediatric patients. Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist is encouraged.

Knowledge and understanding of relevant physiology, pathophysiology and disease states.

Skill in the development of pharmacotherapeutic plans.
Skill in teaching health professional students and residents.
Skill in communicating with people of all levels.
Excellent organization and time management skills.
Skill in use of relevant PC applications including MS Word and Excel and relevant library databases including Medline.
Knowledge of relevant accreditation and certification requirements.
