Essential Functions: Job PurposeThe Freedom of Information Act Coordinator is responsible for ensuring timely and thorough compliance with requests received under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Receives, investigates, tracks and responds to FOIA requests per regulatory and University requirements. Investigate FOIA requests and determine appropriate course of action, adhering to University and regulatory requirements. Interpret and apply FOIA legal regulations and University polices as necessary.Create a tracking system for FOIA requests. Locate and review FOIA records, per request, for possible release and/or deletion of exempt material.Prepare and issue responses per regulatory requirements, releasing, withholding or redacting requested materials. Collaborate with office of General Counsel and other related parties obtaining necessary information for responses, fee waivers and expedited processing determinations. Establish and adhere to quality control and other FOIA practices and procedures in accordance with regulatory and University requirements. Establish and maintain professional and effective working relations with department, school and college leaders. Provide recommendations and guidance to departments on FOIA matters.Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree in political science, communications or related field. Will consider a combination of relevant education and experience.Two years' experience analyzing and reviewing FOIA requests or as a paralegalAbility to communicate effectively and professionally orally and in writing. Knowledge of the English language structure, including rules of compositions and grammar.Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Relates work tasks to key organizational objectives/ vision, and exhibits sound and accurate judgment. Proactively identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Ability to draw conclusions based on data/information analysis. Anticipates the implications and consequences of situations and takes appropriate action to be prepared for possible contingencies. Demonstrated capacity for prioritizing and time management, multi-tasking, flexibility in the face of changing priorities and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Knowledge of Freedom of Information Act.
