The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of epidemiologists, clinicians, immunologists, geneticists and industry partners to investigate the epidemiology and control of BLV in dairy cattle. Specifically, the successful applicant will be expected to: (1) Design and conduct experiments independently; (2) Develop models to investigate the impact of BLV status on reproductive performance and other production parameters in dairy cattle. (3) develop methodology for applying a current qPCR for high throughput analysis of blood and other body fluids to detect BLV provirus; (4) Clearly document results and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts. The candidate will also be expected to publish and present work at conferences, teach at workshops and help supervise students.
The initial appointment will be 12 months, with renewal for one or more years subject to satisfactory progress and mutual agreement. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until suitable candidates are identified.
The postdoctoral research associate must have Degree in veterinary medicine (or equivalent) and a Ph.D. degree (or be in the final stages of earning a degree) in a relevant quantitative discipline (epidemiology, ecology, statistics, or related field) and good communication skills. Proficiency in modeling hierarchical ad longitudinal data using SAS, Stata or R is required. Applicants must have the ability to work independently and in collaboration.
Strong quantitative statistics and epidemiological skills are highly recommended, and an interest in understanding the transmission and control of BLV is encouraged.
Applicants interested in bovine leukemia virus epidemiology and control and have experience in molecular methods to detect BLV as well as analysis of longitudinal and hierarchical data will be highly considered.
