The Academic Success Center provides centralized academic support services to all undergraduate students at UMBC. The center is organized around three primary areas serving as a one-stop hub for student support. Through a coordinated approach and an unwavering commitment to student success, the Academic Success Center fosters a welcoming environment that provides a one-stop opportunity through Academic Policy, Academic Resources, and Academic Advocacy for students to achieve their academic goals and claim their future with a UMBC degree.
The Coordinator, Tutoring Services, supports academic tutoring for Academic Resources in the Academic Success Center (ASC). The coordinator is charged with assisting Academic Resources leadership with the daily operations of the Math and Science Tutoring Center (MASTC) and the Writing Center (WC), located in the AOK Library.
The Coordinator will be present in the Library location of the ASC each day during operating hours, ensuring the professional operation of these high-volume tutoring centers, including accurate sign-in of students attending tutoring, matching with appropriate tutors, overseeing the tutoring activities, ensuring tutoring staffing of shifts, approving timesheets, and following up on student needs and issues.
The incumbent will also assist with connecting services to UMBC functional competencies and the Academic Resources goals to assess for student success. The incumbent will assist with the collaboration with faculty to identify tutors and reaching out to potential tutors for interview and hiring. The incumbent will assist in the scheduling tutors and use current technology to make the schedule available to students.
In addition, the incumbent will also support all Academic Resources tutoring programs by communicating with students about tutoring needs and scheduling appointment tutoring, including marketing tutoring programs. The incumbent works with the Academic Resources leadership in training and evaluating tutors using College Reading and Learning Center (CRLA) guidelines to maintain Academic Resources Tutoring Certification at Level 1, 2, and Master Tutor designations and will perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in mathematics or science.
One year experience working in a learning center in a higher education setting hiring and scheduling tutors and experience using a tutor/tutee scheduling/tracking tool.
