The Supervisor, Building Maintenance performs responsible supervisory work involving the assignment and direct supervision of custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, furnishings and equipment as well as building entrances and exterior walkways. The Supervisor is also responsible for training new employees in proper custodial procedures for the use of manually operated tools, electrically powered machines, cleaning chemicals, solvents and floor maintenance.
High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years' experience in building and custodial maintenance preferably in a university or residential/housing setting. One year supervisory or leadership experience. Ability to work flexible shifts and/or work overtime when needed. Good interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with customers such as students, co-workers, management and the public. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including those required to create reports, conduct meetings, and train personnel as well as the ability to work well with others. Ability to assess and troubleshoot basic mechanical/maintenance issues. Performs physically active work requiring frequent standing, reaching, walking, bending, shoveling, pulling, pushing, climbing on a ladder and lifting in order to perform various cleaning and set-up tasks for training purposes and emergencies. Frequent lifting requiring the execution of up to sixty pounds of force to move and use supplies, use cleaning aids and equipment. Valid Michigan driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the university by the university's insurance carrier. Ability to perform the functions consistent with intermediate word processing, intermediate spreadsheet, and intermediate database applications as demonstrated by a skills assessment.
Experience with the set-up and breakdown of audiovisual (AV) equipment as needed. Experience with inspection software.
