Applications are invited for a Research Associate (postdoctoral) position in theoretical and computational high-energy and/or nuclear physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Department of Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering (CMSE) at Michigan State University. The successful candidate will collaborate with Prof. Huey-Wen Lin and will lead an effort to explore the quantum algorithms and simulation in various problems related to hadronic physics.
There is an interdisciplinary effort underway at MSU in experimental, theoretical and algorithmic quantum information science (QIS) and quantum computing. This burgeoning multidisciplinary effort includes over 20 faculty distributed across physics, chemistry, engineering, material science, CMSE, math, and the Facility for Rare-Isotope Beams (FRIB). The newly established MSU-Q is a "Center for Quantum Computing Science and Engineering" to support and sustain QIS efforts at MSU and provide a hub for QIS connectivity around the Midwest and beyond. This connectivity includes academic collaboration as well as partnerships with private-sector players working in quantum computing, including IBM, Google, Ford Motor Company, Northrup Grumman, D-Wave, and EeroQ Inc. The successful candidate is encouraged to pursue interdisciplinary work with Prof. Lin and other faculty members in MSU-Q in both research and teaching of QIS topics if interested.
The appointment is initially for one year, renewed annually for up to three years, based on performance and the availability of funding.
Doctorate -related discipline
Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in a related discipline by the start of the appointment.
