Ast Instructor/Instructor/Ast Professor Fixed Term
The Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates for anticipated fixed-term (non-tenure stream) faculty positions in elementary and secondary teacher preparation programs. These positions will be on a part-time to full-time basis (one-year appointment). Primary responsibilities will be at the East Lansing campus, but may include occasional travel to off-campus sites in Chicago, Detroit, or Grand Rapids.
Responsibilities will include some combination of the following: teaching undergraduate or masters level courses related to elementary or secondary education in at least one subject area (e.g., mathematics, social studies, literacy, English education, art, science, TESOL, or world languages); working with teaching interns and their collaborating teachers during a year-long internship required for initial teacher certification; serving as Subject Area Leader for the elementary or secondary programs; and, contributing to program re-certification, assessment, and accreditation.
Position rank will be at the level of Instructor or Assistant Professor, depending on qualifications. Appointment will be for one-year beginning fall 2020. An advanced degree in a relevant field (a doctorate is preferred, but outstanding candidates with a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree and exceptional experience will be considered).
Appropriate PK-12 teaching experience and relevant college-level teaching, specifically in elementary or secondary education; experience in guiding masters and doctoral students in curriculum and instruction in elementary and secondary teacher education; commitment to working as part of a team; and, excellent communication and leadership skills.
