We are currently seeking a full-time Clinical Research Therapist to assist with a federally-funded project focused on increasing substance use treatment retention in the chronic pain population. The Clinical Research Therapist will be responsible for implementing manualized therapy interventions with an adult population with current or historical substance use. The delivery of the interventions will take place in person and via telephone or video conference, so as to promote increased access to the intervention by participants who may be in remote locations and to increase generalizability of study results. Travel across the state of Michigan will be required, so the candidate must have their own vehicle- miles driven will be reimbursed. The candidate will have the unique opportunity to receive ongoing, specialized training and regularly scheduled clinical supervision with internal, expert clinicians in the clinical intervention(s) being utilized in the projects. Training and supervision will include didactic and experiential training, as well as collaborative review of recorded therapy sessions with participants. These tasks are with the goal to develop and refine clinical skills, as well as to achieve therapist expertise in the relevant manualized intervention(s). The Clinical Research Therapist may also receive clinical supervision toward social work licensure (LMSW) via a supervisor within the greater research team, if needed and desired.
The Clinical Research Therapist will be responsible for preparing materials for the study sessions; accurately completing daily paperwork, electronic notes, and additional documentation needed for the study; updating study databases; following all research protocols and procedures; participating in weekly supervision; performing and documenting risk assessments; assisting with recruitment tasks; and providing manualized therapy and control sessions. Additional study tasks may be assigned as necessary. This position requires flexibility and availability to work days, evenings, and weekends, as needed, to meet study goals. Reliable transportation is necessary.
Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a similar discipline, with evidence of course work in Research Methods and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is strongly preferred. Training in and experience delivering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is strongly preferred. Appropriate licensure (e.g., LLMSW, LMSW) within the candidate’s field is preferred. Previous training and/or extensive experience working in clinical research with manualized interventions is preferred. Excellent organizational skills, professionalism, attention to detail, ability to work independently but also within a team, personable character, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines are all a must. The candidate must be able to work independently for extended periods while also receiving feedback and guidance from multiple study coordinators and faculty investigators. Experience working on a multidisciplinary team and ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines are also a necessity. Experience using MS Excel, Access, and REDCap are preferred. Previous experience conducting health-related research and/or with substance use or high-risk populations is preferred, but not required. The job will require flexibility in order to meet project deadlines and goals; therefore, a strong ability to problem-solve is highly desired. The candidate must own their own vehicle and be willing to drive to meet participants accross the state of Michigan.
