Position Title: Associate Dean of International Programs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
(1) Travel to China at various times with the possibility, depending on need, of being present in China 1-2 months at a time, with opportunities to teach. (2) Manage hiring and teaching assignments of instructors to teach in China programs. (3) Support the success of courses taught in China through review of instructors, facilitating communication between sites and offices, addressing concerns, ensuring appropriate orientation for faculty. (4) Trouble-shoot student issues that arise for students in China programs while attending Detroit Mercy, especially those that are academic in nature. (5) Work with academic departments and Associate/Assistant Deans to ensure all students in the China programs are properly advised and certify successful completion of degree requirements. (6) Be a positive and enthusiastic representative of Detroit Mercy, understanding that a critical barometer of success will be whether the program is successful in recruiting students to attend course at Detroit Mercy’s US campus UDM. (7) Help recruit undergraduate students in the China programs into Detroit Mercy graduate programs. (8) Serve as the main point of contact/liaison for Detroit Mercy with the China team as well as the Chinese Universities. (9) Create and maintain a budget and review and authorize expenditures for the China programs in conjunction with the Dean of Engineering & Science and Detroit Mercy leadership. (10) Work with International Services office to organize events and orientation for international students. (11) Work with admissions office to ensure their timely processing of paperwork, student applications and issuing of I-20s.
A college degree and a professional certificate or graduate degree.
A PhD in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of teaching experience is preferred.
Two years to five years.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, a strong team player with a positive attitude, and enthusiastic student-centered administrator, engaging in best practices for multicultural engagement and a demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse population of students.
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping.
Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.

Salary/Pay Information: Commensurate with experience
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with occasional nights and weekends.
