The Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences invites applications from outstanding candidates for a fixed term, Research Associate position in the area of Weed Genomics.
Position Description (project/duties)
The Patterson lab at MSU is deeply involved with the objectives of the International Weed Genomes Consortium (IWGC). The IWGC is a multi-industry and multi-academic collaboration who's objective is to sequence, assemble, annotate, and publicly release ten weed genomes in three years. The main responsibility of this position will be to polish, annotate, analyze, and publicly release all weed genomes produced by the IWGC. The responsibilities of this position and relatively short timeline require an expert that can quickly adapt to the position and function at the highest capacity. The requested position requires a specialist that has in-depth experience in 1) Bioinformatics and computing, 2) Evolutionary and plant biology and 3) Weed science and agronomy. Additional responsibilities may include 1) acquiring additional future funds from both industry partners and nationally competitive grant agencies, 2) training graduate students in the fields of bioinformatics, comparative genomics, and evolutionary biology, 3) collaborating and reporting for industry partners and the IWGC, and 4) running bioinformatics training sessions for the weed science community.
