Seeking a highly motivated Research Associate (RA) to join a research team housed in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Michigan State University (MSU) and lead by Dr. Claire Margerison (http://www.epi.msu.edu/faculty/margerison/). The RA will be primarily responsible for data management and analysis of large administrative and survey datasets in support of research examining impacts of health and social policies on maternal and child health. The RA must have strong data management and analysis skills. The RA will have the opportunity to be lead author on publications if desired.
A doctoral degree or equivalent in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, economics, public policy or a related field.
Strong skills in management of large datasets and statistical analysis using either SAS, R, or Stata.
Experience with multilevel modelling, fixed effect modelling, and survey weighting
Ability to work independently; self-motivated
Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues
Excellent time-management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Experience with difference-in-difference analysis, regression discontinuity, and instrumental variable analysis
Excellent scientific writing ability and strong communication skills
Subject-matter knowledge in one or more of the following: social epidemiology, maternal and child health, public policy
Experience with claims or health system data
Note: Candidates with strong quantitative backgrounds but lacking the desired qualifications should still apply, as training in specific skills can be a component of the position.
This is a one-year full-time position, but with the possibility of extending for 4 or more years, based on funding and performance. The salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
