The School of Health Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan invites qualified persons with a passion for food science and food service management to apply for a full-time, Special Instructor position. This is a non-tenure track position, providing benefits, and with job security available.
The Nutrition Program within the Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences at Oakland University offers a B.S. in Nutrition and expects to launch a dietetics specialization. The successful candidate will have teaching strengths in food science, cooking and culinary arts, food service management with experience teaching courses with a focus on supervised, experiential learning opportunities within both university and community settings. A minimum of a Master's degree is required in a nutrition and dietetics, food science, food service management, hospitality management or related field; RDN or NDTR credential and experience with dietetics education preferred. The successful candidate will have professional and/or academic background in the field of dietetics and food safety certification.
Key responsibilities include:
Development and teaching of food science and cooking lab courses
Development and teaching of upper level food service management course where students develop and demonstrate management, food service, and leadership skills
Create and maintain a budget and inventory of food and supplies for cooking classes
Create and maintain relationships with community and university partners in the development and execution of courses
Contribute to ongoing program assessment and accreditation activities
Maintain service activities within and external to Oakland University, including professional memberships
