The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing, Michigan seeks applicants for a position at any rank, but particular consideration will be given to tenured candidates at the Associate Professor level or higher in Mass Spectrometry and Metabolomics. The successful candidate will carry out independent, innovative research in the application of mass spectrometry to biological systems and will also direct the world-renowned Research Technology Support Facility (RTSF) Mass Spectrometry and Metabolomics Core (https://rtsf.natsci.msu.edu/mass-spectrometry/). The MSU Core is a 2800 ft2 facility with 13 mass spectrometers and 3 full time staff that have led the world in the analysis of small molecules and complex chemical mixtures since its establishment in 1973. The Core serves as an open-access laboratory supporting the research of about 150 groups each year.

Outstanding opportunities for collaboration are available with researchers in the MSU Colleges of Human Medicine, Natural Science, Osteopathic Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, the DOE-Plant Research Laboratory, Michigan AgBioResearch, the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center, the Institutes for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (IQ), Integrative Toxicology and Plant Resilience, and institutions in the Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor/Detroit metro areas.
Academic interests of candidates can be broad but should include a focus on advancing metabolomics methods and their application to biology. The candidate is expected to have an established independent research program with a track record of high-level publications and external support, interest in or experience with managing mass spectrometry instruments and core staff, and extensive evidence of collaboration through mass spectrometry. Commitments to teaching (undergraduates, graduate students in biochemistry or related fields, and/or professional students in human or veterinary medicine), and to promotion of diversity and inclusion are expected. A generous startup package and modern laboratory space will be provided to help maintain an independent research program, secure extramural funding and advance the scientific and programmatic aims of the Core.

Doctorate -Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field
PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field, demonstrated independent research program with federal funding.
