Candidate should be proficient in Sound area in the Department of Theatre. Teaching responsibilities include courses in sound design and technology. Based on experience, other classes to be taught may include Introduction to Technical Theatre, Topics in Production Design, Graduate Design Studio, and the University’s Integrative Studies in the Arts and Humanities. In addition to teaching duties and mentoring student designers and technicians, the Sound Designer collaborates with the design team to build and run the department’s academic year productions, as well as design and run Summer Circle Theatre (SCT) season.
Professional expertise with industrial processes and problem-solving skills are a prerequisite for our formal productions across University performance spaces. Analyze current audio technologies and set-ups and work with faculty on optimal audio configurations and explore techniques for adapting audio technology to the idiosyncrasies of our hardware and mechanical systems. This overview of professional standards and pre-existing technological limitations within our spaces will set the foundation for ongoing experimental production work of the Department of Theatre. These skills serve a practical function to make possible the innovative work of our design team as they merge audio/visual, electrical, and projection technologies into live experimental performances.

Doctorate -Field of sound design and technology
MFA (or the equivalent professional experience), working knowledge in the field of sound design and technology required. Teaching experience, union or professional affiliations, the ability to teach/mentor in a secondary area of production, and composition for sound design preferred.
