A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). This candidate will direct studies using in vitro and in vivo approaches for understanding the fundamental biological role of miR-29 in pancreatic diseases with specific focus on pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis using miR-29 KO and genetically engineered murine models, biochemical and molecular genetics. In addition, the candidate will be involved in performing pre-clinical studies to evaluate the therapeutic use of miR-29 and other anti-fibrotic siRNA molecules using AAV gene therapy and pharmacological based approaches.
IUSM has excellent resources with dedicated pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis working groups composed of diverse basic and clinical expertise and availability of cell lines, animal models and human tissue specimens. In addition, IUSM has state of the art research facilities and the Department of Medical & Molecular Genetics houses the viral vector production facility. Further PI is a member of IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and access to a wide variety of research facilities. Together IUSM is creating an excellent environment for trainees too conduct basic and transitional research.
The applicant should have the ability to work independently as well as in collaborative research projects. Duties and responsibilities are to perform experiments in a basic cancer biology research laboratory for in vivo characterization of mouse models, as well as cell culture experiments. Techniques include using transgenic and knockout mice for in vivo/ex vivo experiments, serum and tissue sample collection and analysis, cell culture, molecular cloning, generation of stable cell lines, CRISPR, RNA-Seq, scRNAseq IP/CLIP, transfection, qPCR, ddPCR, immunoblot, immunohistochemistry, and bioinformatics analysis.

Doctorate or terminal degree required. PhD or MD PhD in Biology/Genetics/Molecular Biology/Cell Biology/Biochemistry or a related field.
