West Shore Community College is seeking adjunct/part-time faculty with the availability to teach up to three sections of SOC 171: Introduction to Sociology ONLINE, starting with our Winter 2025 semester (January 13-May 2, 2025). In this survey course, students will learn about sociology's major theoretical perspectives, concepts and methods.
Part-time faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities of teaching include preparing and presenting lectures and labs, writing and grading exams, meeting with students as needed, and assigning grades.
Job Duties
- Instruct students in assigned courses
- Maintain academic standards and cover all provided student learning objectives
- Prepare up-to-date course syllabus and materials in accordance with college guidelines
- Monitor student progress and meet with students as needed
- Keep adequate and accurate records
- Use the learning management system to post course materials and grades
- Enter final course grades online
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- MA in Sociology or MA with 18 graduate hours in Sociology
- Successful experience teaching online
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Canvas LMS
This course is delivered entirely online, and there are three sections that need to be filled for a total of 9 contact hours. You will have the option to teach one, two or all three sections. This is a 15-week contract.
Compensation starts at $790/equated hour and is based on degree and course contact hours.
This course is under the direct supervision of the Department Chair, each part time faculty member is responsible for satisfying the educational, administrative, and fiscal requirements inherent in his/her position.
