The Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences at the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine invites applications for an endowed professor in cancer prevention. This position also includes an appointment as a Clinical Faculty member within the Humana Integrated Health System Sciences Institute. We seek candidates who have demonstrated excellence in research and are ready to contribute to our ambitious vision (http://www.uh.edu/medicine/).

The selected faculty will conduct collaborative research within the Institute, Department, College, and University, teach medical students, and mentor faculty and students. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, or DrPH) in a health-related field and have a strong track record for securing extramural funding.

We seek a nationally recognized scholar with:
• Expertise in cancer prevention and control, including the biological, behavioral, and social determinants that contribute to cancer outcomes;
• A demonstrated commitment to improving cancer outcomes for all communities, with a focus on improving access among those experiencing disproportionate cancer burdens;
• A background in community-engaged and participatory research, particularly in the development and implementation of prevention, early detection, and intervention strategies; and/or
• An understanding of culturally adapted approaches that impact cancer care, survivorship, or the patient experience.

The endowed professor will have the opportunity to:
• Collaborate with the University of Houston’s Tier One researchers, including cancer biologists and interdisciplinary scholars across campus;
• Engage with other cancer researchers in the Texas Medical Center, enhancing collaborative research across the cancer continuum;
• Contribute to cutting-edge initiatives that advance early cancer detection, risk assessment, and innovative prevention approaches;
• Lead efforts to implement evidence-based prevention programs, shape systems-level change, and train community and healthcare clinicians; and/or
• Drive product development and commercialization in early detection and prevention, working with emerging technologies and early-stage companies to grow the life sciences ecosystem in Texas.

This role is supported by funding to support research and program implementation, with the ultimate goal of transforming cancer prevention and treatment delivery across Texas and beyond.

Furthermore, this faculty member will play a pivotal role in planning, funding, promoting, and executing programs that align with the mission of the Department and Institute. The Humana Integrated Health System Sciences Institute is dedicated to enhancing healthcare value through research, education, and community engagement. Investigators benefit from extensive interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities spanning psychology, engineering, health professions, law, and business. Additionally, this role provides opportunities for partnership with the Consortium for Translational and Precision Health, an initiative that is led by Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston and supported by a newly awarded Clinical and Translational Science Award Program grant.

We seek candidates with an active publication record, a history of extramural funding, and a collaborative orientation towards team science. Successful applicants will be expected to maintain an externally funded research program.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Primary Responsibilities:
Research
o Supervising and executing relevant aspects of research projects, including question formulation, study design, study implementation, data analysis, and dissemination of results
o Securing extramural funding as a principal investigator
o Building partnerships with researchers and organizations focused on cancer prevention, care, and outcomes.
o Participating in research that contributes to the mission of the Humana Institute
Education
o Developing and teaching relevant sessions within the medical school curriculum, including quality improvement, population health, participatory methods, cancer epidemiology, and research design
o Participating in faculty, staff, and student mentoring
Clinical (if applicable)
o Evaluating and treating patients
o Maintaining an electronic medical record of encounters, diagnostic studies, and referrals
o Participating in interdisciplinary team-based care
Service
o Participating in service activities that are important to the research, curriculum, accreditation, students, and faculty of the College

Minimum Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in a relevant field such as public health, implementation science, health services research, or behavioral and social sciences, with a focus on cancer prevention, control, or outcomes.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity
• Teaching experience
• Track record of extramural funding as a principal investigator
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with building partnerships across disciplines in pursuit of educational or research objectives
• Experience with cross-disciplinary teaching in an integrated medical curriculum
• Experience teaching health professions students
• Experience with student mentoring and advising

This is a non-tenure track Clinical Associate or Clinical Professor position. Rank and salary commensurate with academic achievements and experience.
